Regarding the recent overhaul of 65 Roof Supports in 20 days during the Longwall relocation at Integra Colliery. The 46 Roof Supports overhauled by Phoenix was the driver that made this task achievable.
The ability to conduct a full re-hose on 46 supports as well as:
18 leg cylinder replacements
40 Relay bar replacements
19 base lift cylinder replacements
Relocation of Support control system PMCR
Structural repairs, Side shield repair / replacements
The effort to complete this work in 20 days and to a high standard with no supports requiring any rework on commissioning at site.
The twice a day communication and progress tracking reports made it clear to see progress and react to equipment requirements across the multiple sites.
The product knowledge and the proactive nature of the team was reassuring. This focus was maintained over the 24 hrs a day 7 days a week for the duration of the project.
I very much appreciate the effort from Phoenix during the Support overhaul. The ability to turn around the volume of Supports with varied work scopes over the duration to a high standard is a testament to you and your business.
Thank you for your effort on the overhaul and look forward to utilising Phoenix's services in the future.

Due to combination of abnormal geological conditions and ageing equipment, a significant quantity of Wambo’s Longwall roof supports suffered unanticipated structural issues during the extraction of Longwall 24. The major issues included broken bridge plates connecting base pontoons and broken lemniscate links that had separated from the base, plus routine replacement of leg cylinders etc. These issues presented a serious business risk due to the potential duration and magnitude of the repairs required to bring the roof supports back to a safe operating state.
Phoenix underground were engaged to assist and proactively deployed experienced personnel to audit the roof supports on the Longwall face. From here we were able to quantify the repair process and optimise a project schedule to turn the roof supports through their workshop in an acceptable timeframe. Achieving this aggressive goal required 5 roof supports to be worked on simultaneously, 24 hours a day over 14 days.
Phoenix met their obligations through tight project management, experience and qualified trades people and constant engagement with the mine keeping on top of logistics and scope. The level of documentation was pleasing with daily reporting and comprehensive commissioning and safety files to close out the project. Overall, managing the project was a pleasant experience to what otherwise could have been a highly stressful situation. Phoenix were very well aware of the urgency at the minesite and responded accordingly. I would not hesitate using Phoenix again for our next project and can highly recommend to others looking for a successful outcome.
